History
As per the Hindu mythology, the father of Sati (Parvati) was not pleased when his daughter married to Lord Shiva. He did a fake Yajana (worship with grand fire) to humiliated Lord Shiva in public. On this matter Sati got angry and jump down in fire and ended her life. When Lord Shiva came to know this, he destroyed the fire and carrying Devi Sati’s body on his shoulders started roaming unconsciously through the Himalayan ranges. Lord Vishnu felt that if the final rites are not made, she couldn’t take rebirth as goddess Paarvati and with his Sudarshan Chakra cut her body into pieces. There are total 52 Shakti Peethas where body pieces of Sati fell down around Nepal and India. Kunjapuri Temple is one of them. This place attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year, especially on 'Navratras' (April and October). Grand Celebrations are organized here during the Dussehra festival..
