The temple was built by Adi guru Shankaracharya, Due to heavy snowfall during winters; the temple only opens between the ends of April to middle of November. During winters, the idol dropped at Ukhimath from Kedarnath Dham and idolized there for 6 months.

Itinerary
Day: 01 Rishikesh - Badrinath (295kms/8-9hrs)
Morning drive Badrinath from Haridwar, Dehradun via Rishikesh.
Day 02: Badrinath Sightseeing.
Morning visit tourist attractions: Ganesh Gufa , Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, Charanpaduka, Maatamoorti, Bhimkund, Tapt Kund and the "Mukh" of the Saraswati River.
Day: 03 Badrinath – Sitapur/Sonprayag (228kms/7-8hrs)
Morning drive Sitapur/Sonprayag (depends on availability) via Ukhimath.
Day 04: Sitapur/Sonprayag – Kedarnath - Sonprayag/Sitapur (8kms drive & 19kms Trek each side)
Early morning start your 19 kms trek to Kedarnath or you may hire Palki, Horse to avoid trek or you may go by helicopter on your own cost from 8 kms back Phata place.
Day 05: Sitapur/Sonprayag – Rishikesh (215kms/7hr)
Morning drive back to Rishikesh and visit Laxman Jhulla, Ram Jhulla and Ganga Arti then drop to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun (Train Station/Bus Stand/Airport).
